AEGEAN TASTES IN TUNISIA

Delicious tastes of Aegean will meet with the international chefs in Tunisia. Chefs of Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), will present local tastes of Aegean Region to international guests at the ‘Tunisia Mediterranean Cuisine Rendezvous’ event that will take place on October 14 – 16 in Tunisia. Tolga Kamiloğlu, Trainer Chef at IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Ahmet Güzelyağdöken, President of the Selection Committee of Lokanta Izmir, and Sırma Güven, Izmir Representative of Reseau Delice, visited Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, before their Tunisia trip.
President Demirtaş reminded that Izmir became a member of Delice Network of Gourmet Cities in 2015, a network including 24 cities leading in gastronomy, and said that they made collaborations to promote Izmir and Aegean cuisine worldwide, and the delicious tastes of Aegean would be represented at the meeting in Tunisia.
President Demirtaş said, “We want to globalize the Aegean in gastronomy. There are Chinese and Italian restaurants worldwide, why wouldn’t there be an Aegean restaurant as well? We come from Central Asia. We brought along a rich variety of values and tastes of a culinary culture stretching from Europe to Middle East, to Asia until we settled in Anatolia. These all combine and form our exquisite culinary culture. IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management Team will represent our country in the best possible way in Tunisia.”
‘Gastronomy Tourism’
President Demirtaş reported that herbs and sea food came into mind when talked about Izmir cuisine, and they planned to share this culture with other countries. They placed importance on improving gastronomy tourism in Izmir, said Demirtaş and pointed that Department of Culinary Arts and Management brought Aegean Region dishes together with international cuisines.
