Izmir University of Economics Breeze at GastroFest
Held on November 2, 2025, at Izmir Historical Gas Factory, the 8th edition of GastroFest brought together gastronomy enthusiasts and industry professionals under the theme “Food and Art.” The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) attracted great attention at the event with its booth and workshop organized in cooperation with the Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO).
At the department’s booth, dessert samples prepared by students within the scope of the Pastry course were offered to visitors. Throughout the day, the booth drew significant attention as both the department’s activities and the students’ handcrafted creations were showcased. Receiving highly positive feedback from attendees, the booth became one of the most visited spots of the festival.
As part of the event, a workshop was held under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Sedef Özgönül Donuktan. Department students Zeynep Selen Güldal and Necati Tekin presented their creative dishes to the audience. Güldal prepared “Tropic Mist – Sautéed Shrimp on a Crispy Crêpe Base with Honey-Cream Sauce,” while Tekin presented “Orbit – Beetroot Ravioli with Aegean Tulum Cheese and Green Hummus with Arugula.” These unique presentations, where food and art came together, received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Commenting on the event, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sedef Özgönül Donuktan said, “We were delighted to represent our department. We are proud of our students for drawing attention with their innovative approach and original presentations.”
IUE Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts left its mark on GastroFest 2025 with its creative, flavorful, and aesthetically inspired contributions, making the “Izmir University of Economics breeze” felt throughout the festival.
